Come have fun at the first-ever

MELROSE PARK DAY on June 8th!

What is Melrose Park Day? It's a fun-filled day of softball, story-telling, music and more. A great chance to get to know your neighbors in a relaxed atmosphere!

Date: Sunday (not Saturday, as said here in error), June 8th, 2003 (rain date will be June 22nd)

Time: 11 - 3 p.m. Softball: 11 - 12:30. Picnic :12:30 - 1:30 pm Entertainment: 1 p.m.

Invitees: Melrose Park neighbors and their friends and relatives. Expatriates, Elkins Park people and other are welcomed.

Place: Melrose Park - which is a park and ballfield with playground on Asbury Avenue, near Oak Lane. (see map below).

Directions: Take Old York Road (611) north or south to Cheltenham Avenue. If coming from the north, make a left. If coming from the south, make a right. Go about half a mile and make a right turn onto Oak Avenue (which is along the star below), where you will see a Gusto Pizza restaurant. Take it 1 block to Asbury Avenue and park. The park will be on your left.

Bring: Food and beverages for yourself and your family, and something to share with the group. Also: blankets, folding chairs, folding tables, bug spray, suntan lotion. kits to fly.

Activities: A softball game with a spongy ball, suitable for kids. This will be accompanied by jokes and comments on a loudspeaker by as-yet unidentified kibitzers. Volunteers welcomed!

  • Phil Kates, of the Philadelphia Orchestra and also of your MPNA Board, will play violin!
  • Diane Kolb will read a poem (among other entertainments),
  • Gwyneth MacArthur and Miles Thompson
  • Albert and the Fried-Petersen family will sing and play,
  • We may have a sing-along, and more.
